Who We Are

WCTC brings a diverse background in wildlife conservation programs and combines their UAS experience from military and public safety fields, which is not found elsewhere. This uniqueness makes WCTC a leader among other organizations or non-profits working in the conservation field. WCTC uses their past experiences and collaborations they have developed over 40 years of networking and field training to share best practices for real-life experiences in the field for biologists and rangers “on the ground”.
Wildlife Drone and Technology Summit

Our Story

In 2021 Lonnie attended the Texas Robotics Summit at Reveille Ranch in Burnet, Texas which is a major training and gathering of Law Enforcement and First Responders. This meeting was transforming to see how many technologies currently being used for police and first responders could easily be transferred into the field of wildlife conservation and protection.

It was through this Summit where Lonnie met Tom Prentice and Clay Regan and began working together to exchange ideas and develop a working relationship incorporating drones and technology into conservation action. We saw the need not only to bring these technologies to the conservation field globally, but to help organizations assess needs for equipment and training for their staff to build effective programs in their organizations.

Together with a team of other individuals and conservation organizations we held the first of its kind Wildlife Conservation Drone and Technology Summit also held at Reveille Ranch on October 9-12, 2023. This Summit was the foundation for the idea to set up our own Nonprofit Wildlife Conservation Technology Consultants.

Our Mission

Our mission at Wildlife Conservation Technology Consultants (WCTC) is to democratize access to UAS technology for conservation purposes, empowering communities and organizations with the resources and expertise needed to combat environmental threats and preserve natural habitats.
Environmental Threats

What Makes WCTC Unique?

From conducting thorough evaluations of new UAS technology to designing customized conservation programs, our team is dedicated to delivering tailored solutions that drive meaningful impact. We offer comprehensive training programs for UAS teams and pilots, equipping them with the skills necessary to maximize the effectiveness of aerial surveys and data collection.

Additionally, we provide specialized instruction in conservation ranger best practices, counter-UAS strategies, and emergency medical training, ensuring the safety and success of field operations. At WCTC, we are committed to bridging the gap between technology and conservation, striving to create a world where wildlife thrives in harmony with our planet’s ecosystems.

Our Vision & Purpose

Our vision is a world where conservationists are equipped with the knowledge and tools to leverage UAS technology effectively, enabling them to monitor and protect ecosystems with unprecedented precision and efficiency.

Empowerment

We envision a future where drones are integral to conservation efforts worldwide, empowering local communities and organizations to safeguard biodiversity and mitigate environmental threats through innovative and sustainable practices.

Teamwork

We aspire to create a network of empowered conservation professionals who are proficient in UAS technology, working together to address pressing environmental challenges and preserve the planet’s natural heritage for future generations.

Our Leadership

Lonnie
McCaskill

CEO & Founder
Lonnie has recently retired from the Wildlife Conservation Society, where he was Assistant Director of Operations and Curator of Animal Care at the Prospect Park Zoo in Brooklyn, New York. He has worked in the zoological field for close to 40 years in both zoo and field conservation settings in over 20 countries. With his passion for working with people and the captive husbandry of animals, Lonnie has played a major role in the planning, development, and training of staff in several highly successful breeding and rearing programs for the reintroduction back into the wild of critically endangered chelonian and crocodilians. During this time, Lonnie has also served as a Board Member of the Turtle Survival Alliance and is Co-Chair of the IUCN Crocodile Specialist Group for Southeast Asia.

Lonnie’s passion for wildlife has led him to pursue new technologies to help boots-on-the-ground wildlife biologists, researchers, and rangers perform their jobs more efficiently and safely. This passion led Lonnie to attend and participate in the Texas Robotics Summit for Law Enforcement and First Responders Texas Public Safety Robotics Summit | TXPSROBOTS | Texas Drone Summit. After attending these summits, it became clear that a forum like this was needed for the wildlife community. Lonnie teamed up with Walter Sedgwick, Tom Prentice, and Clay Regan to initiate the first “Wildlife Conservation Drone and Technology Summit” in 2023 in Burnet Texas Home | Wildlife Conservation Drones & Technology Training Event (wcdws.com). This Summit brought together over 150 participants from 20 different countries! The Summit provided a unique hands-on training experience in new technologies and a chance to network with others in the field and tech companies to train and demonstrate drones drone software and hear dozens of presentations on projects in the field.

Lonnie has always believed that wildlife conservation is centered on the community where you work, hands-on communication about their needs, and how to serve those communities through wildlife conservation action. You can create new jobs, education, and trust by involving the community. If you are successful with this, Wildlife conservation is successful! This has been proven repeatedly with the projects Lonnie has been involved with. This strategy is easily transferred to new communities and target species.
